A number of counterfeit perfumes have been seized from a man in Middlesbrough after he was caught with them in the town centre. It is suspected that he was attempting to sell them to the public. If genuine, the goods would have been worth around £1,000. The goods are now in the custody of Middlesbrough Trading Standards.
One police constable stated that the goods were not being sold as described and would likely cause harm to people. He also issued a warning that any other counterfeit goods found being sold in the town would be confiscated and given to Trading Standards.
This demonstrates the ongoing work between councils and Trading Standards, and is a further example of how councils are seeking to remove illegitimate trade from their high streets. Just last week, we reported on Westminster City Council’s increased attempts to remove counterfeit goods from Oxford Street, after it was discovered that counterfeit Paddington Bear merchandise was being sold up to a value of £9,500.
