The UKIPO anticipates that in less than a year it will be ready to pilot its new “One IPO” search service, designed to make it easier for users to search and analyse IP, in particular patents. The UKIPO notes that at present you typically need to use a unique reference number to search for a patent i.e. you can only search if you know a specific patent that you are looking for. However, the new service will include search functions for designs, trade marks, and patents and users will be able to search in various different ways including by owner, registration date and status of the IP right, in addition to a keyword search option or searching in a specific industry. Further, more information will be displayed to users in search results. The patent aspect of the service is due to be launched in autumn 2023, with trade marks and designs due to be added in 2025.
