Disney is facing further allegations of intellectual property infringement, this time over the song “Some Things Never Change” (“the Song”) in the film Frozen 2. A musician, Daniel Grigson, has issued proceedings against both Disney and songwriter Robert Lopez, alleging the Song is basically identical to his song “That Girl”. Grigson claims to have first heard the Song whilst watching Frozen 2 in theatre and was caught off guard at the Songs beat, rhythm, feel theme and words. Grigson further claims his 11-year-old daughter said to him “Dad, Disney took your song”. The Song was written by Robert Lopez and his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez, but in the past, the couple has publically admitted to listening to lots of children’s songs for inspiration. Grigson is seeking a declaration the Song is a rip-off of “That Girl” and an undisclosed sum of damages. It is to be seen if Disney will choose to settle this matter amicably or fight it out before the court.
