On 20 March, Japanese based Fujifilm announced that it has taken steps to issue legal proceedings against rival Eastman Kodak, often known as just “Kodak” over allegations patent infringement.

Fujifilm has made the patent infringement claims over Kodak’s alleged use of four of Fujifilm’s patents which cover printing technologies used to create magazines, amongst other things. The allegations relate to Kodak’s SONORA XTRA brand umbrella products. Fujifilm is seeking injunctive relief and monetary damages. A spokesperson for Fujifilm stated that it “is committed to protecting its significant research and development investments, and in bringing innovative printing plate technologies to customers around the world”.

It is to be seen if this matter will make it to final hearing or if the parties will settle out of court.
