Heavy metal giants, Iron Maiden, are seeking to block a trade mark application for the mark “Maiden Wear” at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Los Angeles business owner, Lu Min Chen, filed an application for the mark back in February 2022 and the mark was published for opposition purposes on 03 January 2023. The mark is to be used in relation to abdominal corsets, shapewear, bras and lingerie, amongst other things.
Representatives for Iron Maiden argue that the mark would infringe their own “Iron Maiden” trade mark on the basis that it is likely to cause consumer confusion as “maiden” is the dominant term in the “Maiden Wear” application. Further, the goods are applied for against similar goods to the earlier mark.
It is to be seen if the application will proceed to registration, or if Iron Maiden will succeed in their opposition.
