Ye (formerly Kanye West) is the subject of yet more legal proceedings, this time for alleged copyright infringement. Ye has been named alongside Instagram in legal proceedings related to a photo posted to his Instagram, allegedly without the copyright owner’s consent. Michaela Efford filed the claim in a California federal court last week over the picture which was posted in October 2022. The photo was registered by Efford with the US Copyright Office in December 2022, after it was posted by Ye. The post has now been removed. Efford claims Ye received financial benefit from the alleged infringement given the “increased traffic to the account”. Efford is seeking damages, injunctive relief and Ye’s profits relating to the post. The allegation comes after Ye’s Instagram account was restricted in October last year for sharing hate speech. It is to be seen if the matter will make it to trial, or if Ye will make steps to settle out of court.
