Can the real Slim Shady please stand… at the deposition

Back in February 2023, we reported on the trade mark dispute between Marshall Mathers, known professionally as Eminem, and reality tv stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon. Eminem opposed a trade mark filed by the two Real Housewives of Potomac back in February 2023 on the basis the mark will cause confusion with his own earlier marks “Slim Shady” and Shady” and damage his brand. The Housewives applied for a trade mark application at the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the name of their podcast, ‘Reasonably Shady’.

Since then, the matter has progressed and the Housewives have filed a request to have Eminem appear in person at a deposition for the proceedings. Eminem has responded to the same stating it would be “unduly burdensome” to attend the deposition in person given he himself has “limited knowledge of the subjects at issue”. Eminem offered the names of three other individuals who can appear on his behalf.

It seems this Slim Shady does not want to stand up and face the music.
