Electric car manufacturer, Tesla, has entered into legal proceedings against an Indian battery maker, known as Tesla Power, on the grounds of trade mark infringement.

This comes after the Indian company continued to use the ‘Tesla Power’ brand following a cease and desist notice sent by Elon Musk’s Tesla in April 2022.

It has been argued by Tesla Power India Pvt Ltd that their main business is making ‘lead acid batteries’ and that they have ‘never claimed to be related to Elon Musk’s Tesla’. However, Musk’s Tesla is accusing the battery company of infringing their ‘TESLA’ trade mark and are currently seeking damages and a permanent injunction in the Delhi High Court.

This is not the first time that Tesla has sought to protect their trade marks. Back in February we reported that the owner of a chicken shop known as ‘Tesla Chicken and Pizza’ was facing a £12,000 bill following a trade mark dispute with the car manufacturer.

It is to be seen in whose favour the court will decide.
