Following the news that Donald Trump had been ordered to cease use of Isaac Hayes’ music at Republican rallies, it has since emerged that Jack and Meg White, of the White Stripes, have now issued proceedings against the presidential hopeful for his unauthorised use of their eminent anthem ‘Seven Nation Army’.
In a post on Instagram, singer Jack White shared an image of the front page of the pair’s legal notice alongside the caption “This machine sues fascists”. The lawsuit lists Donald John Trump and Margo McAtee Martin (Trump’s deputy director of communications) as Defendants in the case. The singer has been quite open in expressing his distaste for Trump.
The action accused Trump of “flagrant misappropriation” of the hit song, accusing the Trump campaign of utilising it to “generate financial and other support for his campaign and candidacy on the backs of plaintiffs, whose permission and endorsement he neither sought nor obtained in violation of their rights under federal copyright law”.
This is yet another in a string of complaints made against Trump for unauthorised use of music at his rallies. The pool of available soundtracks for the Republican presidential candidate is seemingly starting to dry up.
