Sheffield Wednesday Clamps Down On Fake Shirts

Sheffield Wednesday has requested that supporters refrain from wearing counterfeit shirts to the club’s home fixtures, suggesting that fans found to be wearing fake shirts risk being ejected from the stadium and reported to the relevant authorities.

In a statement on its website entitled ‘SWFC Brand Protection’, the South Yorkshire club stated “Counterfeit shirts and their sales impact directly on club revenues. Official SWFC merchandise can be purchased only from the Owls Megastore or online store”. The club also indicated that staff at the official club shop would refuse any requests to add numbering or lettering to fake shirts.

This is another instance which demonstrates the growing prevalence of the counterfeit market, particularly in relation to football shirts and other sportswear.
