Adam graduated from Lancaster University with an honours degree in Politics & International Relations before undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Law at Northumbria University. He originally joined McDaniels Law in 2015 from a large national firm. He left the firm in 2019 to be closer to home, working briefly for a specialist commercial firm in Carlisle before returning to McDaniels Law in December 2020. He is now a Director specialising in Intellectual Property and heads up our Carlisle office.
Adam is experienced across the full range of IP matters with particular specialisms in soft IP litigation (trade marks, copyright and design) and in commercial IP issues around the sale or licensing of IP whether on a standalone basis or as part of a wider sale or purchase of a business. Adam conducts litigation for client’s in the specialist intellectual property courts and has wider litigation experience in the Commercial courts and in the Business list of the High Court. Adam also acts for clients in proceedings before the Intellectual Property Office and advises clients on brand protection and registration strategies by way of the filing and prosecution of trade marks and design both in the UK and abroad.
Adam is very commercially minded and seeks to ensure clients do not take legal action simply because they can but always in furtherance of a clear commercial goal or outcome for the business.
What are the values that drive you or /and what do you enjoy about the work you do?
I enjoy really getting to know clients and their businesses and helping clients understand their intellectual property rights and how these can be successfully utilised to achieve the commercial aims of the business. I particularly like helping client’s to enforce their rights and getting involved in the detail of complex litigation or the detail of a complicated, but beneficial, commercial agreement.
Most likely to: Have the office in hysterics with my dad jokes.
Random fact: I was once a county 100m champion but that feels like it was an awfully long time ago now.
