Global Sports Piracy Website ‘StreamEast’ Goes South

Global sports piracy website ‘StreamEast’ has been shut down following a collaboration between the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (‘ACE’) and Egyptian police.

Two men were arrested near Cairo, Egypt, by police on suspicion of copyright infringement, with authorities seizing laptops and smartphones suspected of being used to operate ‘StreamEast’.

With the total value of media rights globally surpassing £44 billion in 2024, many sports fans have turned to sports piracy sites due to surging subscription fees. ACE have purported that the primary accessors of ‘StreamEast’ originate from the UK, US, Canada, the Philippines and Germany.

With authorities worldwide taking a hard-line stance on protecting the intellectual property rights of sports broadcasters, the developments of sports piracy internationally has sparked not only legal debate but also political debate. As such, it remains important at all times to ensure you have protected your own intellectual property, as well as to respect the intellectual property rights of others.
