American Music Giant makes Swift Trade Mark Applications

American pop star Taylor Swift recently announced the title of her next album, “The Life of a Showgirl”. This proved to be a masterclass in combining her industry acumen with intricate planning into the management of her intellectual property rights.

Taylor Swift’s legal team filed US trade mark applications for ‘TLOAS’, ‘THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL’, and a new logo relating to the album for use on numerous goods and services including recorded music and merchandise. The applications were made at around 6:20pm on 11 August 2025, and because of the delay in the US Patents and Trademark Office (USPTO) records updating, Taylor Swift’s album announcement and the trade mark filings were perfectly synchronised. This ensured that the announcement would remain a complete surprise to fans, and there wouldn’t be any information leaked prior to the singer’s announcement.

This is a shining example of protecting brand and intellectual property rights and represents the value of having a strong legal team that understands a business’ needs.
