Actors Dave Franco and Alison Brie have been sued for copyright infringement in relation to new 2025 film ‘Together’, in which they both feature and produced. StudioFest, a film production and distribution company, has alleged that the film is a “blatant rip-off” of their romantic comedy ‘Better Half’. The actors’ agent WME Entertainment, and Michael Shanks who is the writer and director of Together, are also named as defendants in the claim.

In the supernatural body horror film ‘Together’, the pair, who are married in real life, play a couple who encounter a mysterious force that fuses their bodies together. It is claimed that the film is “virtually identical” to ‘Better Half’ as the films are alleged to have several similarities, such as the plot, themes, characters, dialogue, mood, and sequence of events. It also asserts that the ending scene is the same in both films, with the couple pulling out a vinyl record of the Spice Girls album and playing the song “2 Become 1” in acceptance of their conjoined fate.

The claim alleges that StudioFest’s casting director approached WME as Franco and Brie’s agent in 2020 with a script for their movie “Better Half” in hope of casting them in the film, but they declined the casting. The producers of Better Half heard about Together at its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2025, where it first discovered the similarities between the two. In light of the previous proposition as to casting, the claim alleges that the defendants intentionally copied the film.

Together is due to be released in cinemas at the end of July/ start of August 2025, but it is to be seen if that will go to plan in light of the claim.
