Coachella settle "Coachillin" dispute

The Coachella Festival has settled its trade mark dispute with various companies over their use of the brand name “Coachillin”. Last year, Coachella organisers, Goldenvoice, issued proceedings against numerous companies trading under the name “Coachillin” on the grounds of trade mark infringement. This isn’t the first time Goldenvoice have taken measures to protect its intellectual property rights. Last year it sued Afrochella on similar grounds. This time around, the company in the firing line is Coachillin Holdings and its various subsidiaries using the “Coachillin” branding. The “Coachillin” trade mark was registered in 2014 at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) by Jeremy M Joseph. The marks have since been assigned to Coachillin Holdings. Goldenvoice’s claim of infringement is centred on the fact “Coachillin” is synonymous with its Coachella festival. As festivals goes tend to chill at the festival and over the years, many social media users claiming to be “Coachillin” whilst at Coachella festival. A settlement has been reached between the parties, though the terms of the same are yet to be disclosed.
