Thou Shall Not Infringe Copyright

Catholic Connect has recently been suspended from Instagram due to a number of allegations of copyright infringement.

Catholic Connect is a popular Catholic-themed account that provides traditional content catered for young adults; it has a substantial following of over 273,000 followers. On 28 February 2021, Instagram disabled the Catholic Connect Instagram page as a result of numerous copyright infringement allegations. Mr Richy Orozco who is the CEO of Catholic Connect was informed by Instagram of two specific violations.

Orozco has stated that one of the copyright infringement allegations concerns an Instagram account that had specifically asked Catholic Connect to share one of its videos. Orozco claimed that he has since attempted to contact the account holder in relation to the video but has received no response. Catholic Connect then received notification of a second allegation of copyright infringement. Orozco alleges he, nor the team at Catholic Connect recognise the content which is the subject of the second allegation. Following this second allegation of copyright infringement, Instagram removed Catholic Connect from its platform.

Catholic Connect has posted over 5,000 times on Instagram. Orozco is seeking clarification from Instagram in the hope to get Catholic Connect up and running again.
