The Script They Won’t Let Go

James Arthur has settled a copyright dispute in the US with The Script over the song ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ which was a number one hit in the UK for three weeks in 2016, generating approximately £14 million in royalties.

Arthur was faced with a legal battle in the US after The Script claimed Arthur’s song ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ was too similar to their own hit song ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.’ The case was dismissed in the UK, prompting The Script to bring the case before a US Court. Whilst the terms of the settlement have not been made public, two members of The Script, Daniel O’Donoghue and Mark Sheehan are now formally listed on Arthur’s song as songwriters.
