The Rhode to trade mark infringement

A nine year old fashion brand “Rhode” has issued a claim for alleged trade mark infringement against American model and socialite Hailey Bieber over the launch of her new skin care brand “Rhode”.

Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers, co-founders of the fashion brand issued the claim in the U.S District Court for the Southern District of New York earlier this week in an attempt to protect their brand. The fashion brand is expected to make $14.5 million this year. Celebrities such as Beyoncé and Rihanna have been known to wear the brand. The co-founders have requested the Judge blocks Bieber from using the brand name.

Papers filed by the co-founders at court allege Bieber offered to purchase the “Rhode” trade mark back in 2018, an offer which the co-founders declined. The offer to purchase suggests Bieber was fully aware of the earlier Rhode trade mark.

The co-founders claim to have admiration for Bieber and did not want to sue her or her new brand. Although the co-founders wish Bieber every success, they believe they had to issue the claim in order to protect the Rhode brand.
