Rapper Marshall Mathers, known professionally as Eminem has formally objected to a trade mark filed by Real Housewives of Potomac stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon for the mark “Reasonably Shady”.
The Real Housewives started a podcast called Reasonably Shady back in May 2021 which “features conversations about being fearless women”. The Housewives have since filed a trade mark application at the United States Patent and Trade Mark Office (“USPTO”) and if accepted by the USPTO, they will be granted exclusive rights over the brand for use in beauty products and clothing amongst other goods.
However, Eminem, owner of the marks “Slim Shady” and “Shady” has filed an objection against the application. The filing at the USPTO states Eminem has “invested a substantial amount of time, effort and money in promoting the name and marks Slim Shady and Shady”. Further, Eminiem has also invested “a substantial amount of time, effort and money” in “ensuring the high quality of goods and services” associated with the Shady and Slim Shady marks.
The Housewives are yet to respond to the opposition, so it is to be seen if they intend to defend their application.
