The Chambers and Partners 2022 Edition was released at the end of October and McDaniels Law is delighted to see recognition of its status as the leading IP firm in the region. The firm has retained its Band 1 ranking for intellectual property (IP) in the North East and is the only firm to achieve a Band 1 ranking this year which demonstrates our expertise and lead in the field. This success follows on from our top tier ranking in the 2022 Legal 500 UK Solicitors rankings, which was released in September 2021 and can be found here.
Chambers Research is conducted by 200 Research Analysts, across 200 jurisdictions and provides nearly 6,000 rankings tables. Over the year, it collects hundreds of thousands of responses from clients, the majority via in-depth interview to determine which band firms will be ranked.
The Chambers review reads: “Well-respected IP boutique recommended for rights acquisition, management, commercialisation and disputes. Highlighted for expertise in design rights, copyright and trade marks. One of the most experienced firms in terms of IPEC trials. Offers a portfolio service handling trade mark, patent and design registrations. Acts for clients from a range of industries, with a particular focus on furniture, homeware and apparel.”
This ranking is an accurate reflection of the firm’s position within the region. We are a niche firm, but remain by far the largest standalone IP team within the region. We strongly believe our clear focus on IP is our strength and benefits our client’s greatly, and clearly this is something Chambers has recognized.
In addition to the firm ranking, both Niall Head-Rapson and Kelly Hudson were delighted to have been ranked once more as leading individuals.
Niall has now been ranked continuously for 12 years and is quoted as being “one of the most authoritative trade mark and design specialists working today, and has a distinguished following among artisan and light industry clients. He comes recommended for the full spectrum of disputes, IP-led transactions and portfolio management.”
Kelly now has 8 years of continuous ranking in the guide and this year has been particularly noted for her practice in relation to brands and for her work in respect of designs, with the guide stating “Kelly Hudson is noted for her brands and design practice and represents clients in both contentious and non-contentious matters. She acts for clients ranging from independent designer-manufacturers to well-known clothing brands”.
McDaniels Law is a full service IP firm, dealing with clients who have IP as a core asset of their business. Our client’s range from sole traders through to SME’s and PLCs. We undertake the full range of contentious and non-contentious IP work and regularly conduct cases in the IPEC, High Court, and Court of Appeal.
